The creation and maintenance of short-term and long-term venous accesses for hemodialysis in patients with renal failure. It includes the surveillance of and restoration of function to failed arteriovenous fistulae or arteriovenous grafts.

The use of a mechanical instrument to remove cholesterol plaques on the walls of arteries that narrow or occlude them.
